Summer Workshop: Picasso
Lovely chilled afternoon art, looking at one of my faves...Pablo Picasso. I always try to share some facts about the artist as it brings them to life. Kids were fascinated that when Picasso was born, the midwife thought he was dead so she left him on a table to attend to his mother. It was his uncle, a doctor, that saved him. How close we were to losing one of the world's greatest artists... I asked the kids if they knew what their first word had been - usually mama or dada - Picasso's was "piz," short of lápiz the Spanish word for 'pencil.' We also played 'Tell The Others' while we made our cubist portraits (e.g. tell the others... one thing that you're good at) One lad said "I'm good at annoying my sisters"!
